Field Notes

Description:

This tree has small, white, sticky looking flowers growing out of the bark. The fruit of the Cacao tree are green, medium sized, and bumpy. The leaves of the cacao tree are elliptical in shape. The length at longest point for the tree is 38 centimeters, while the width is 12.5 centimeters. The leaf margins are entire, while the leaf venation is netted pinnate. The leaf arrangement is sub-opposite, and the leaf texture is rough and papery. The leaves also have a drip tip. The bark texture is scratchy and rough, and the roots system is buttress. The tree is thin, and there are a couple of them huddled close together in a sunny, open spot of the rainforest.

Habitat:

It was found in a sunny, open spot of a humid rainforest. It was drying up when I found it.
