Ground Cherry

The ground cherry is a low-growing, flowering plant that grows a fruit. The flower is yellow on the outside and brown in the center. The flower is small in comparison to the leaves. The leaves are simple. The plant has fruit and the fruit is small and fleshy. The fruit is about 10-12 millimeters long; it has a papery covering. The plants themselves are native to all of the U.S. and most of eastern Canada. They grow in man-made or disturbed areas, meadows, fields, train tracks, riverbanks and roadsides.
