Description:

My mother is lucky enough to live next to the Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge, so she has a lot of wildlife by her house. When we returned from a walk one day, we found this lovely green treefrog next to her front door. Look at those toepads and beautiful golden eyes! For some reason a lot of people seem to think that treefrogs are only something you'd find in the rainforest, but this is a common native species. I made the mistake of forgetting how good these guys are at escaping capture - when I went to pick him up he peed on me (thus making himself slippery) and jumped into the bushes. My mother later found a smaller one inside of her barbecue on the second story balcony. Luckily she hadn't turned it on. Moral of the story: watch out for pee-happy treefrogs in your grill!
