Field Notes

Description:

Liliaceae / Lily family. A perennial herb, grows from bulb. The non fragrant flowers have a characteristic brown/green mid vein on the underside of each petal/tepal. Flowers are from 1/2 to almost 1 inch in diameter with 6 stamens, yellow anthers and 6 tepals = 3 petals and 3 tepals.

Resembles a wild onion.

Same as: Texas False Garlic (Nothoscordum texanum)

Habitat:

Pastures, gardens, yards, lawns, meadows, woodlands and roadsides.

Notes:

Blooms late winter (started this year in February, 2013) through early spring and often times again in the fall, but not as grand as in the spring.
