Field Notes

Description:

Ornamental grass growing wild. Almost like squirreltail grasses. Spikelets are soft and furry/silky looking. Seeds point down. Immature spikelets with seeds are pale green..as they grow..they change color to a beige with brown like bands and eventually to beige/gold...so likely the reason why comman name is goldentop. This is a very lovely grass

Habitat:

Coastal lowland grassland and/or sage scrublands.
Redtail hawks. Coyotes. Kestrels. Western Bluebirds. Western Kingbirds. Lark Sparrows. White Crown Sparrows. Yellow Rump Warblers. California black footed ferret. Ground Squirrels. Cottontail Rabbits.
