Field Notes

Description:

Adult bird, rufous barred chest and belly, checkered dark and light wings and reddish shoulders and head. Thick dark bands on tail.

Habitat:

I've spotted these raptors by ponds, estuaries and lakes. I read where they are forest birds. All the ones I've seen have been in the open except this one which perches either on a bare tree or at the edge of a forest.

Notes:

Spotted this one by a lake.
