Description:

Very small scarab of about 8 mm. Subfamily Cetoniinae.

Habitat:

Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, semi-urban area on the outskirts of San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.

The scarabs are a large and complex family. Yours is a June beetle or chafer beetle and belongs to the Cetoniine subfamily. Their larvae are 'curl grubs' that eat your lawn. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cetoniinae
