Field Notes

Description:

Whilst in Tobago we took a boat ride out to St Giles Island which is an uninhabited protected Island home to several different types of sea birds including these very colourful red footed boobies. These ones were of the white tailed brown morph variety but plumage colour can vary greatly between species. The red footed boobies are the smallest of all at around 70cm and spend most of their lives at sea apart from when they are breeding.

Habitat:

These ones were seen on St Giles Island, Tobago and also on the way back to Charlotteville on the sea. However this species breeds on islands in most tropical oceans.
