White Christmas Beetle
Anoplognathus pallidicollis
-21.4384, 149.235
Field Notes
Description:
A beautiful Christmas Beetle! About 2cm in length, light brown with darker faint grooves running down the elytra. I am unsure if this is Anoplognathus porosus or Anoplognathus boisduvali . Any help would be much appreciated. Adult beetles emerge from the soil during the summer and feed on eucalypt foliage. They are voracious feeders and large swarms can defoliate trees rapidly. Feeding damage is visible as jagged, ripped leaves on mature leaves; they also feed on immature leaves.
Habitat:
Found throughout eastern and south-eastern Australia.
