Field Notes

Description:

Native to New Zealand. About 2cm wingspan with pale base colour and red/brown markings. Plume moths hold their narrow wings extended laterally when resting, giving them the appearance of a piece of vegetation. Due to this camouflage, they can often be seen resting in visible spots in broad daylight.

Habitat:

Among vegetation on Waiheke Island.
