Field Notes

Description:

Found this male paper wasp near some potted plants on my deck. Head of a screw in the deck boards for size comparison. He was unable to fly as he was missing his wings, possibly from a fight with a predator or rival wasp, or some kind of birth defect. I let it hang out in the flowers, but I'm not sure how long it made it after that.

Habitat:

Rural deciduous area, Clermont County
