Field Notes

Description:

small orange tip butterfly, wingspan about 30mm, possibly this individual has changed to winter livery as there is very little black present on the wings; most of the orange tip butterflies become whiter in the dry season (March to September)

The tiny spot on the upper side of the fore wings identifies this as C. pallene, the Bushveld Orange Tip

Habitat:

disturbed roadside ground with very shallow soils and a sprinkling of pioneer flowers and grasses
