Description:
This is a juvenile Brown Goshawk. Brown Goshawks have "long legs [that] are yellow, with reddish brown feathering about the thighs. Young birds have grey-brown eyes, with brown, streaky plumage. There are several subspecies, with the northern sub-species, didimus, being generally smaller and paler." (Birdlife Australia: http://birdlife.org.au/bird-profile/Brown-Goshawk )
Habitat:
In a tree on the sand dunes at Roebuck Bay, Broome Bird Obervatory.
Notes:
While watching the shorebirds prepare and/or head off on their migration, two juvenile Brown Goshawks flew by in front of us. Both did land in the tree but one took off again leaving this one. This is the first time I have seen juvenile Brown Goshawks (unless I have seen them before and never knew what they were!).
