I am a real amateur when it comes to birds and other living organisms Liam, I have a little plant knowledge, but I know your bird idents are pretty accurate, which I am very grateful to receive.
Well, I was just curious. I'm not experienced in differentiating Little/Chinese Egrets. For all I know, it could be a Chinese. The reason I was leaning towards Little were 1. The dark bill - Chinese have mostly yellow bills from what I can gather 2. The lack of plumes - Chinese should show these in at least alternate plumage. Not sure how the molting works over in Thailand, but here in America the Egrets are gaining their plumes (at least here in the South). 3. Likelihood - from what I've gathered, Little is more common than Chinese. That said, I could totally be wrong. Like I said, I have no experience differentiating the two. The reason I asked what lead you towards Chinese was because I was curious as to whether there were ID tips I wasn't aware of. If you want a definite ID, I would suggest Birdforum: http://www.birdforum.net/forumdisplay.php?f=114
Thought it was too big to be 'Little' Liam, Have just looked at an Asian bird website, and the first image is a Little Egret. Thank you Liam!! Think I will leave my bird idents. to you in future unless I'm 100%. : )
What leads you towards Chinese instead of Little?
