Description:
As it's name implies, the Zebra Swallowtail is black and white. It has long tails on the hind wings with red and blue markings in the lower hing wing. It's wingspan ranges from 2.5 to 4.1 in (6.4 - 10.4 cm). This butterfly represents the spring form which is a bit smaller with shorter hind wings than the summer form.
Habitat:
Native to the eastern United States and southeast Canada. Its host plant is Pawpaw, which I observed in this area (third image). The butterfly in this image is feeding on a blackberry flower.
Notes:
The zebra swallowtail has also been called the pawpaw butterfly, kite swallowtail and ajax.
