Field Notes

Description:

This is an oriental whip snake I found in the SAS rainforest. It was a baby snake because it was only a few feet long (maybe 2-3). It had a distinct yellow line on the side of its body as you can see. This helps to classify it as an oriental whip snake rather than a regular whip snake. Also, it had a very distinct face to other whip snakes. It has eyes as slits on the side of its head as you can see. It's eye also is not round it's horizontally elongated. Additionally, the oriental whip snakes snout is generally twice as long as the length of the eye which it seems in from the picture. The snake was lime greenish and had a white underbelly. It was trying to camouflage with the other plants behind it.

EEK! you need a description and a complete scientific name here. This is a pretty good picture, but you will need to describe the head to determine this is different from other whip snakes.
