Field Notes

Description:

A speckled-eye hoverfly; Eristalinus sp. of Syrphidae.

Habitat:

Spotted on taro (Xanthosoma sagittifolium) in a large semi-urban yard & garden situated next to a disturbed patch of remnant lowland forest.

Notes:

First 3 photos with flash in shade of late afternoon light.

If they're like the ones around here Anotonio they are much slower and less annoying than 'house flies' Cruising more like a bumblebee they seem to know what's a house and what's a flower :-)
