Field Notes

Description:

This is the smallest and most common bee-eater. Mostly green upperpart with a bright yellow throat and a black gorget which has a thin blue line on its upper edge; a very distinctive bright blue line above the eye borders a black eye-band; dull cinnamon-rufous underparts. Sexes are alike. Generally seen in pairs.

Habitat:

Open grassland or along the shore of lakes and swamps. Habitually perches on low bushes or rocks, in search of insects.
