Description:
This is a Southern American falcon, but it range cover Central America and south of USA , Consider very rare in Costa Rica, it have been seen here only 14 times in the last 30 years.
This falcon is very slender, long-winged, and long-tailed, and a little smaller than a peregrine falcon, they feeds on large insects and small vertebrates including pigeons (principal food here in the town of San Isidro del General,)
Habitat:
Open areas like Savannah, grasslands and marshes. the individual of the picture have been seen in town for 4 days
Notes:
The word " aplomado" is spanish and means “lead colored” referring to the dark blue-gray of the back of the bird.
