Field Notes

Description:

There were quite a few of these winter-plumaged adult Heermann's on the beaches of southern California during November. The streaked head rather than bright white is the indicator of winter plumage.

Habitat:

Generally breed in Baja California but disperse north to the California beaches during winter and rarely as far north as southern BC. This one was seen with a mixed flock on the beach at Oceanside, California.
