Yellow Slime Mold
Fuligo septia
33.0762, -97.0481
Field Notes
Description:
Yellow slime mold. The left displays a rather granular form. The right displays the mold after a smooth slime was exposed to the morning sun. It is spring and I was overwatering my keyhole vegetable garden. Mold is on the surface of one inch of wood mulch.
Habitat:
This is common mold in landscape gardens with wood mulch.
Backyard Habitat: The environment is a ‘KeyHole’ vegetable garden. It receives irrigation. In the Spring, when there are no mature plants using water and I overwater, the mold appears.
Notes:
A good shot of the yellow slime is in the Wikiepdia reference. It shows the smooth yellow mold, also known as dogs vomit slime mold, with one white patch.
The EOL reference is like the left photo.
Other reference describes the life cycle of the organism.
