Maybe but where I am they prohibited us from setting fireworks off on the barge because they claimed it was causing the pelicans to fly into the rocks on the island nearby. But they allowed us to shoot from land and I don't see how that would be any different since we shoot toward the island they're on.
The brown pelican was delisted a few years ago due to the recovery of the species. http://ecos.fws.gov/speciesProfile/profile/speciesProfile.action?spcode=B02L
They say they are endangered but I see more of them around then I see White Pelicans.
You're right its a pelican. I've suggested a scientific name. Keep up the great spottings.
