Crabapple tree
Malus adstringens 'big river'
51.795, -114.104
Field Notes
Description:
This crabapple tree is approximately 4.29 meters in height . It has a substantial amount of fewer leaves than the surrounding crabapple trees. The bark is rough and split in certain areas, with many knots and small, wilted crabapples. The bark appears grey while surrounding trees have a more purple tinge. It does not appear to be very healthy or producing as it should.
Habitat:
This crabapple tree is located in the wetlands area on the south side of the gazebo amongst dozens more crabapple trees. It is the fourth more southern tree on the east side of the path. Fairly exposed to the elements and seems to be receiving plenty of sunlight and moisture.
Notes:
I believe the hot, dry summer we've had along with the wind and other elements have taken a toll on this particular tree.
