Now we got some additional infos and confirmation of the ID! https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/339451-Chrysocale-ignita
Cool, thanks again bayucca. Pretty cool postcard.
Just another probably valid link, since the first one would be redirected into anywhere... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Chrysocale-Ignita-Horama-Aedippus-Moth-London-Natural-History-Museum-Postcard-/380769543642?nma=true&si=RlZZeLkdLGytehqiT9jeq%252BKRoJU%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
Thanks, Scott! That was an ID where I felt like Inspector Colombo eh.. Colombia...
Wow! I thought this moth was special but not to this extent. I appreciate all of your hard work with this one bayucca. I'm glad you enjoyed the search for this so much. Hopefully I have more spots that will be just as exciting. Thanks everyone for the comments too.
Arctiidae, Ctenuchinae, Chrysocale sp. and most probably Chrysocale ignita. Unfortunately you will not find any picture of it, you: Congrats!! You probably have found the very first and only native moth! Take care of it! Let's explain you my ID: American Fauna from Seitz 1940: http://www.flickr.com/photos/33398884@N03/4338479775/in/photostream/ 2 species: Histiaea and Calonotus, both are completely outdated. Calonotos (os!) still exists, but looks different. So, I remembered one I once IDed: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/17638341 Other one, but with a wrong ID: http://www.flickr.com/photos/gonza_catamarca/7318951272/ Genus Chrysocale, quadruple cross check with all other name from Seitz (Regalis, Ferens, Gigantea): Yes, they still exists, but no Ignita: http://boldsystems.org/index.php/Taxbrowser_Taxonpage?taxon=Chrysocale EOL shows the name, so the taxon really and actually exists: http://eol.org/pages/560187/overview But still nothing with my construction of Chrysocale and Ignita from the old reference from Seitz. Then all of a sudden: Here we go!! http://www.google.ch/imgres?q=Chrysocale&start=218&hl=de&client=safari&rls=en&biw=1242&bih=657&tbm=isch&tbnid=61XLhC-j8xX9ZM:&imgrefurl=http://www.cafr.ebay.ca/itm/11430-INSECTS-BUTTERFLIES-MOTHS-CHRYSOCALE-HORAMA-CYANOPEPLA-POSTCARD%3Fitem%3D290812931087%26ih%3D019%26category%3D915%26cmd%3DViewItem&docid=VO-h2LhkQOAMsM&itg=1&imgurl=http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTEwM1g2OTE%253D/%2524T2eC16JHJIkE9qU3iyUjBQRgdivdQw~~60_3.JPG&w=501&h=800&ei=081ZUeHsGYvZPJ-mgJAB&zoom=1&ved=1t:3588,r:36,s:200,i:112&iact=rc&dur=2164&page=11&tbnh=183&tbnw=115&ndsp=25&tx=43&ty=57 The link is no more active, that's why I probably did not found the picture. So, this is the link from the google search. I hate looking for Chrysocale, you first got hundreds of Chrysler cars. With green beetles of Brazil, it is even worser. That was one of my most exciting IDs ever! Enjoy and be happy and proud of your Chrysocale ignita!
Oh man I really hope someone can ID this beauty!
