Field Notes

Description:

Small (1-1 1/2 inch) gray w/ large eye.

Habitat:

Found on hiking trail in a county nature Preserve. Appeared they were caught after the fall rainy season when the area was flooded and the trail was the conduit for the water to flow. This area is a funnel for the area's water shed. Thought that as the water dried up the fish got caught and could not go anywhere; and therefore clustered as the water dwindled to zero and died in place on the trail. This is a pine flat woods area. Not sure if they flowed over from the major creek that feeds the area or what.
