Field Notes

Description:

Large moth about one inch long and maybe a bit more. Looks like a chip of wood and it would be perfectly camouflaged against uneven bark of trees.

Habitat:

It was sitting on the wall of the tiny enclosure that surrounds the electric meter of my house...the meter room. The road outside has weeds on the verges and there is an abandoned house nearby that is covered with vegetation both wild and runaway garden varieties...we get lots of birds and butterflies thanks to this poor house. I think this moth was born there.

Notes:

Never seen this species of sphinx moth.
