Field Notes

Description:

Small shrub that was 2 meters high with lots of white flowers. The young twigs have thorns. The flowers are white with five petals and red-pink stamens. They are pollinated by midges. The fruits are called haws and are red pomes 1 cm long with one seed.

Habitat:

Spotted at an open oak forest (Quercus pyrenaica). Reserva de la Biosfera del Real Sitio de San Ildefonso-El Espinar.
