Field Notes

Description:

Large red-brown male Rhinoceros Scarab with orange abdominal hair, about 3.5 cm long. His one horn is located in the center of the frontal thorax. That gives the horn great stability in push and shove contests. When there is a horn on the head, its stability and strength are reduced, however it can pinch legs (and fingers) against the thorax. Family Scarabaeidae.

Habitat:

Came to the lights of a store, Axtla de Terrazas near Xilitla, San Luis Potosí, Mexico.
