Field Notes

Description:

They are about the size of a large housefly. It has a black head, bright orange abdomen, and smoky wings. There are comb-like flattened hairs on its hind legs which is where it gets its common name.

Habitat:

Spotted visiting Common Boneset in a meadow. Mixed forest nearby.

Notes:

The female lays its eggs on large nymphs or adult bugs such as squash bugs and green stinkbugs.
