Field Notes

Description:

Dark green, thought and leathery leaves. Grows 33-66 ft tall. Also, grows red berries during winter. Sharp thorn-like needles around the sides of the leaves. Very shiny, usually bloom from April to June.

Habitat:

Long native habitat. Massachusetts to Florida on the east coast and Texas to Missouri on the the west. Often grow along shaded woods, streams, and river banks.
