Field Notes

Description:

This blackbird came down yesterday after we had at least 6 " of snow looking for something to eat so I cleared a spot for him and threw some raisins out, these are what you can see in the snow infront of him. The males are distinguished by their black feathers and yellow bill, females are brown and speckled. They are a member of the Thrush (turdus) family and not to be confused with the American species.

Habitat:

Seen in my back garden in Sheffield but populate most of Europe.

common to us in Europe yes but not to anyone outside of this continent!! all spottings are important as they go into PN's global database so that they have an idea where and when species are in the world :-) This one however is not so common: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/17407166
I was lucky here because he is normally alot more aware of me at the window but I think he was far too interested in the raisins than me taking his photos, I will try and get a female at some point too.
Wow! Beautiful! I love the contrast between the beak and the body! That eye ring is awesome too!
