Field Notes

Description:

Tiny bird with a gray chest and olive back. The head has a golden-coloured crown that is outlined in black, which is seen well in the first photo. This guy is eating a crane fly. These are the first good photos I have of this species, and I'm pretty sure it's because he stopped moving for a few seconds to finish eating the fly!

Habitat:

Found in a large evergreen tree on the side of the road in the town of Petersburg on Mitkof Island, Alaska.

It must have been a very tasty fly! A pretty bird with its little crown :-)
He was singing as he finished up the fly :)
In the last photo its beak is open...as if it is saying...Look Mummy all finished! Loved it.
