Field Notes

Description:

Black with possible yellow and grey on sides and head. Six legged with what looked to be two ovipositors. It has Wings but I didn't see it fly. It's rear legs are larger than the front four by a bit and they seem put on backwards (they seemed to push it kind of how a crickets does). Size is about 1 to 1 1/2 inches for the body. Add another 1/2 inch for the tail.

Habitat:

Found on front porch. In Nachese WA. Within 10 yards of an apple orchard, 40 yards from a horse pasture, 100 yards from the Nachese river, and 200 yards from dry grass hills.

Notes:

It is not a fan of light. It ran from my phone light. Looks like it had two ovipositors or twin tails. Very low profile bug that almost seemed almost to drag its thorax but I don't think it actually did. Also you can see in the picture that its rear two legs were the largest but the seemed put on backwards. I have video of it walking that is great, but ya can't post vids.

Seems a bit small for a Giant Stonefly. Maybe a Common Stonefly.
Thanks! I'll make an account on YouTube later today. As for the size it's about 1 to 1 1/2 inches long with another 1/2 in for the tail.
I suspect this is one of the Giant Stoneflies, addition of an approximate size would be helpful for ID. The appendages at the tail end(caudal appendages) are called cerci and are used for feeling. You CAN post a video but it must first be uploaded to a service like YouTube.
