Field Notes

Description:

Low to medium annual (40 cm tall) covered in loose, rather wooly hairs. Leaves oblong in outline,shallowly lobed to pinnately-lobed; lobes blunt. Flowers mauve to purple, 18-25 mm, the petals star-shaped, 15-22 mm long. Siliqua 25-100 mm long, spreading to deflexed, with a distinctive 3-horned apex.

Habitat:

Sandy coastal habitats. Spotted in the sandy beach of Agios Mamas (Chalkidiki, Greece).

Greek name: Ματθαιολία η τριγλώχιν (Π.Γ. Γεννάδιος) or Ματθιόλα η τρικέρατη
