Field Notes

Description:

A medium sized wading bird, they are a light speckled brown all over with a long, down-turned bill.

Habitat:

They are found in western and central North America and migrate south for the winter. They are seen on the shore sticking their long bills into the mud to pick out invertebrates.

At Laguna Atascosa NWR.
