Field Notes

Description:

Large lady beetle. Elytra red with black spots. Head and protonum black and white. Small yellow fungus (Hesperomyces virescens) can be seen. This introduced species has become quite invasive and is thought to be responsible for the spread of disease (especially fungus) to native species of lady beetle.

Habitat:

Suburban garden. Bronze Fennel.
