Field Notes

Description:

This is one of the trillium species. I'd love to know it's name. I'm hoping there is a plant expert on Project Noah, who can name it. Unfortunately, this is the only shot that I took (Lesson Learned).

Habitat:

Native to the southeastern United States. This one was growing near a stream in humus-rich soil under the shade of deciduous trees. It was photographed along the trail at Slick Rock Falls in the Pisgah National Forest, NC.

Notes:

I'm pretty sure that it's not Southern Nodding Trillium.

Species ID Suggestions

Hi Ken! I'm not an expert, but I have found this particular web site really helpful for IDing wildflowers in our neck of the woods. http://www.southeasternflora.com/species_list.asp There are several trilliums listed with good pictures. I bet you can match it up based on the tilted/nodding flower, the petal color, and the color of the anthers which are visible :)
