Field Notes

Description:

A medium sized (this one was very small at only 14-16 inches long) striped snake with variable coloring. This one perfect camo of browns, black, and tan. Tongue is red with black tip. Adults can grow up to 2-4 feet. (Photos are macros)

Habitat:

Open woodlands, near a small brook on moss and surrounded by rocks.

Notes:

Sunning - warming itself on a bright sunny day, but still cooler temperatures in the 40's. I hope love to know what that loud bird is at the beginning of the video. You can hear the brook sounds 5 feet away. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjoM2aC10vU. 2nd video shows no movement but entire snake in bright sunlight.

It's weird cause I found Salamanders (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/19299588) yet no snakes. ): I hope I get one soon
Conor, I have also been looking all week, but it has been so cold in our state. Today we had bright sun for a while, but now the clouds are rolling in. Soon you will find one, two or more. Good luck!
I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THESE ALL WEEK! And I still haven't found one. ):
My first snake of the spring season. A cute common eastern garter snake. Non-aggressive, sunning itself. Check out the videos.
