Field Notes

Description:

Brown cocoons. They all appeared empty with at least one hole in each.

Habitat:

Found in the furrows of the bark of Live Oak trees [Quercus virginiana].

Notes:

These cocoons were thick in all of these Lived Oaks. From the ground as far up the branches as I could see. There must have been thousands. Every oak in this line was the same. Six trees. I looked at some Live Oaks nearby but no cocoons.
