Description:

You cannot see anything but the distinctive silloutte. Largest of the North American herons with long legs, a sinuous neck, and thick, daggerlike bill. Head, chest, and wing plumes give a shaggy appearance. Great Blue Herons appear blue-gray from a distance, with a wide black stripe over the eye.

Habitat:

This heron has been coming several times a day in hopes of fishing in the Koi pond. Here it is in the tree tops at dawn waiting to fly down at first light.
