Field Notes

Description:

Widespread throughout the US. Very territorial and will actively harass other birds. Medium sized songbird, more slender than a thrush and has a long tail, small head and short bill. Overall, they are grey, paler on the belly and breast, and have a white wing bar visible when perched. Usually sits on the top of vegetation (or anything else it can perch on) and sings its heart out.

Habitat:

Found anywhere with open areas and shrubby vegetation. Common in suburban areas and backyards.

Notes:

I saw several mockingbirds at the Pelican Island Wetland, singing in the scrubby grassland.
