Field Notes

Description:

Engraving larva
Size: 1/8 - 1/4" long

Habitat:

Targeting Chinese Banyan.
Insect will bore into trunk or limbs (have not seen mature insect). Larvae will engrave along phloem layer, turning it into a papery mush. Affected limb or side of trunk will die off from that point on, eventually killing whole tree within months.

Larva is 1/8" - 1/4" long. Larvae seems to be active from December- February.

Notes:

Aside from the Gaul Wasp infestation to our Chinese Banyan's; this is something new to Oahu that I have noticed.
