Field Notes

Description:

A predominantly green hummingbird with blue areas, the white on its belly is the real ID clue, because a white belly isn't so common. This was a calm little bird which sat for its photo with complete confidence, eventually going to sleep all fluffed out (third photo)

Habitat:

It was photographed from a dugout canoe in a little slough along the north bank of the Amazon River, on a branch directly over the water.
