Field Notes

Description:

Barklices (also known as booklice or barkflies) are regarded as the most primitive of the hemipteroids. They feed on lichen and algae that they find on the bark of trees, and have no economical interest for humans. Yet, they are among the most beautiful insects, with their delicately lacy wings wich, in some species, resemble tatoos.
