Description:
A large tree squirrel, and the most common squirrel found in Texas. Distinguished from the eastern grey squirrel by its size (the fox squirrel is larger) and the orange tinge to the fur on its belly. Farmers often consider them pests because of their fondness for pecans and corn.
Habitat:
Prefer open woodland with little understory, but leave the forest to forage in the surrounding area
Notes:
I saw this guy on rooting around for acorns and things on the university campus. Initially I thought he was just an enormous grey squirrel (since those and European red squirrels are the only ones I'm familiar with) then found out about the bigger fox squirrels!
