Field Notes

Habitat:

Mississippi River habitat below dam

Notes:

The scene at this dam was complete chaos! There were well over 50 pelicans sitting at the bottom of the dam waiting for large carp to surface. The pelicans were quite clumsy as they fought over fish. When a fish would surface, it was like a slap-stick comedy to see who could catch it first. If you expand #2 and #3, you can see the carp ready to be swallowed. This was definitely my best pelican moment so far:)

Thank you very much Caleb and armadeus! It was a wonderful time watching these lovable birds. I'm glad you liked them.
Oh...that is very cool! Thank you for sharing :)
Thank you Marta! It sure was fun watching them. We spent an hour photographing them, and another hour just watching. Sometimes it's nice to put the camera down and soak it all in.
