Field Notes

Description:

Crested. Red feathers on cheeks; hence the name. Front is white; vent is red. A slender, very elegant-looking bird with the most melodious of calls...liquid music almost.

Habitat:

The bananas I have started to put out are now a magnet for birds. So, along with the more territorial and aggressive red-vented bulbuls, I have these more-shy and easily- scared bulbuls too. They sit patiently on my clothesline and wait till the Asian Koel leaves and then fly down to eat a little. Initially only one bird used to come; today there were two.

Notes:

Lovely to welcome them especially when confined to the house because of the Corona lockdown

Thank you, Tukup. These are bullied so much by the Red vented bulbuls even though there is always plenty to go around...I was glad these two got a bite to eat.
Cool. Always nice to catch a pair together. Thanks Sukanya.
