Field Notes
Description:
Saw several of these white fringed beauties eating discarded sumac leaves. Approximately 1 inch long, there were 10 - 12 of them in the shade at the edge of the backyard. Notices a lot of white fringe debris suggesting that this is a fragile disguise or possible this is discarded as they mature. Observed a single caterpillar on the Japanese maple in the back, with much less fringe.
Habitat:
Dry backyard in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia.
Notes:
I have several good videos, but do not know how to upload.
