Field Notes

Habitat:

Ocean coasts, found usually in shallow waters close to land. Nest in what’s known as the taiga shield ecotone in northern Canada and Alaska.

Notes:

The brown ones are female. Wish I could have gotten a bit close, but had to take the photo from the tour van. They're beautiful ducks. As you can see the first one is diving then the second ones dive , then the third and so on in order to about half the group. As they come up they go to the back and next part of the group goes to form the front V. A very organized way for everyone to feed on mussels and other invertebrates.
