Field Notes

Description:

This small, thin, nocturnal and mildly venomous snake was 11 inches long. Despite being venomous, it's not really harmful to humans. This snake is brown with darker brown patches on the back and sides. The markings on the head are a darker brown color. Coloration varies depending on the substrate they're typically in. The eyes are yellow-brown with elliptical pupils which are for great for seeing at night. The last image shows its size compared to a 67mm camera lens. Habitat:

This snake was in a small crevice in a stucco house near a garden of a residential area. This subspecies is found along the western coast of Southern California and Baja California.

Notes:

This snake is typically active at night and eats small lizards, vertebrates, etc.
